Reed's Remember Christmas
Do you really remember Christmas? Not the hustle and bustle of shopping, large crowds, and parking in the back forty. But, pure, sweet Christmas from the eyes of a seven year old? It's exciting, free, and oh so special!
I know you remember being little and counting the days until Christmas arrives... 364, 363, 362 until finally ...3, 2, Christmas Eve! The month of December was pure joy as a child. Stories of Jesus, Wise Men, Little Drummer Boys, Dominic the Donkey (click here if you don't know about Dominic), Jingle Bells and Rudolph. Mom and Grandma baked such tasty treats - sweetly frosted sugar cookies, fudge, Divinity, candied fruit cake, short bread cookies, coconut macaroons, ginger bread men, chocolate covered pretzels, Hershey's Kiss cookies, and the list goes on and on. Oh yeah, don't forget snow. That wonderful, white magic powder that closed school and allowed you to break land speed records down Tobaggan Hill.
Christmas Eve - the night that took forever to get here and even longer for you to go to sleep. It might have started with friends and families enjoying food and exchanging gifts. But it always ended with having to try and fall asleep. Not matter how hard you tried to stay awake and see Santa, you never quite made it. You would make sure that everything was ready: cookies - check; milk - check; reindeer food - check; tree lights on - check; fire out - check; and so on. Finally after the hundredth time your parents told you "If you don't go to sleep, Santa won't come" you finally drifted off.
Then BAM! It was here! Christmas morning! You and your siblings would run into your parent's room (after peeking under the tree) and wake them up. How could they sleep with all those glorious presents under them??!! Come on Dad, get uuuppp!
Christmas is for little ones - both young in heart and size. Seeing Christmas through my children's eyes make me appreciate them even more. This year, remember all those not as fortunate as us. Remember all the dads and moms waking up in a foreign land keeping us free and protecting our freedoms. Keep them in your prayers and remember why we celebrate. It's Christ's birthday. The best present we've ever received!
