Reed's Remember In God We Trust
Remember when In God We Trust was a national feeling? It was put on our money for a reason and part of the national sentiment. Don't think so, just read Tom Brokaw's 'The Greatest Generation Speaks: Letters and Reflections.' During the struggle and triumph of WWII, the letters and notes of the 'Greatest Generation' hold to truths and support of God.
Why is there such controversy of 'In God We Trust' or 'one nation under God'? The rhetoric of 'separation of church and state' is not part of this nation's founding principles. I challenge anyone reading this to find those words in the Constitution. I'll even help you out. Below is the first Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It does not say that government and a church should be separated, but that the government shall not impose a state religion ('establishment of religion'). Our founding fathers would not object to the 10 Commandments or the words in our Pledge of Allegiance.
